Damp survey and

Woodworm is a common cause of timber damage found across the length and breadth of the UK. Born from an infestation of creamy-white larva, a network of holes are bored within your timber, weakening your structures from the inside out.
As a slow-acting infestation, woodworm has the potential to deteriorate timber for years before it’s detected by a homeowner. At which point, it can be difficult to tell whether the infestation is old or still active with a new cycle of larvae. For a specialist diagnosis, contact our team today.

Penetrating Damp Remedies

Penetrating damp occurs when water infiltrates your property through external defects or internal issues, resulting in damage to your walls, ceilings, and furnishings. To effectively combat penetrating damp, it’s crucial to identify the source of water ingress and implement appropriate repairs. Our qualified damp proofing surveyor can assess your property to determine the cause of the dampness and the extent of required repairs.

Once the source of the dampness is identified, our damp proofing specialists will remove the affected material and apply a physical waterproofing membrane to expedite the drying process. Furthermore, external issues must be addressed, which may involve coating the exterior wall with a chemical water repellent to ensure water remains outside your property, protecting your living space from further damage. Prompt and effective management of penetrating damp is instrumental in preserving your home’s structural integrity and comfort.

Woodworm treatments FAQ's

What is woodworm?

Woodworm is a term which refers to the wood-eating larvae of several species of beetle found in the UK. In most cases, woodworm is caused by the offspring of common furniture beetles, otherwise known as the common house borer.

Common signs of woodworm in your timber, include:
• Surfaced bore dust
• Small holes in timber
• Network of tunnels within timber
• Signs of larvae or adult-sized beetles
• Brittle and powdery surface

The life cycle of woodworm spans over three stages lasting up to five years. Each cycle begins with an adult beetle laying between 20 to 50 eggs just under the timber surface. After a few weeks, larvae hatch from the eggs and bore into the timber for a period of two to five years. Once the larva has transformed into a beetle, it will bore its way to the surface, fly away and repeat the cycle by finding a mate.

Woodworm can appear on all forms of timber structures, including:
• Joists and beams
• Roof structures
• Decorative woodwork
• Furniture
• Decking
• Floorboards
It can be difficult to tell whether woodworm is still active within your timber and it’s often necessary to contact a specialist.
